Veteran Labour MP to enter race amid concerns over Rebecca Long-Bailey’s campaign.

Barry Gardiner is set to enter the Labour leadership race at the eleventh hour, according to reports.

According to Newsnight’s Lewis Goodall, Gardiner has been urged to stand by those unconvinced that Rebecca Long-Bailey can win.

Goodall says those encouraging Gardiner to stand include Unite the Union boss Len McCluskey.

However, McCluskey has responded by saying: “I certainly haven’t been approached by Barry to support him as leader.” He also denies expressing concern about Long-Bailey’s campaign or anyone else’s.
