Only travellers from banned ‘red zone’ countries will be forced to quarantine.
The government has announced that travellers arriving in the UK from ‘red zone’ countries will be required to self-isolate in provided accommodation.
The ‘red zone’ list is made up of countries currently subject to the UK’s travel ban, which the government says people travelling from “will not be granted access to the UK”.
The countries currently on the list, and soon to be subject to compulsory hotel quarantines, are:

- Argentina
- Bolivia
- Botswana
- Brazil
- Burundi
- Cape Verde
- Chile
- Colombia
- Democratic Republic of Congo
- Ecuador
- Eswatini
- French Guiana
- Guyana
- Lesotho
- Malawi
- Mauritius
- Mozambique
- Namibia
- Panama
- Paraguay
- Peru
- Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores)
- Rwanda
- Seychelles
- South Africa
- Suriname
- Tanzania
- United Arab Emirates (UAE)
- Uruguay
- Venezuela
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
