The Independents launched by former Change UK MPs

MPs who quit Change UK – The Independent Group last month have today launched a new group called ‘The Independents’.

Former Labour MPs John Woodcock, Gavin Shuker, Luciana Berger and Angela Smith are joined by former Tory MP and ex Change UK leader Heidi Allen.

The group says it is “the new home of independent politicians in Westminster”, saying it wants to “encourage a stronger spirit of cross-party working”.

Chuka Umuna left Change UK and later joined the Liberal Democrats. Sarah Wollaston, who also left Change UK, has not joined any other party or grouping.
