Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has met former Labour MPs as part of a trip to London.

Pelosi met with Independent Group MPs Chris Leslie and Mike Gapes. Also present was Ian Austin MP, who also left the Labour Party earlier this year but did not affiliate with the Independent Group.

Pelosi tweeted an image of the meeting, saying she heard the MPs’ perspectives “on Brexit, why they left the Labour Party, and the importance of standing unequivocally against anti-Semitism wherever it is found.”

Pelosi’s delegation is visiting Stuttgart, London, Dublin and Northern Ireland. According to an official announcement, the delegation will “meet with senior government officials and local leaders to learn more about the future of the UK and Ireland amid Brexit and to express America’s enduring commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future for all who live there”.
