Workers to be told to return to their usual workplace from August.

Boris Johnson is to announce an end to the blanket ‘work from home if you can’ policy in a speech on Friday.

The prime minister will encourage people who have been working from home to start going back to the office and other workplaces. The change comes amid fears that businesses dependent on worker footfall, such as cafes and other outlets, are not benefiting from recently relaxed lockdown rules.

The public will also be told that public transport can increasingly be used but should still be avoided at rush hour times.

The plans are expected to be part of the prime minister’s “long-term road map for recovery”.
