Jane Dodds elected MP for Brecon and Radnorshire

The Government’s majority has been cut to just one after the Liberal Democrats gained the Brecon and Radnorshire seat from the Conservatives in yesterday’s by-election.

The by-election was held after constituents recalled the previous Conservative MP Chris Davies. He was convicted of false expenses claims in March. Davies re-stood as the Conservative candidate in yesterday’s by-election.

The by-election was the first electoral test for new leaders Boris Johnson and Jo Swinson.

By losing the seat, Johnson has suffered the quickest by-election defeat of any new Prime Minister since WW2.

Plaid Cymru and the Greens did not stand in the by-election in an effort not to split the Remain vote.
