Shadow Brexit Secretary says remain should be an option in second vote
Keir Starmer has called for a second referendum with remaining in the EU an option.
Speaking at the GMB union’s annual congress event in Brighton, the shadow Brexit secretary said any deal agreed by a future Prime Minister should be put to a public vote. No-deal should also be put to a vote if that became government policy, he added.
Crucially, Starmer said remain should be an option in any vote. This would set the stage for a second in-out EU referendum, with the terms of out defined more clearly than in 2016.
