Starmer is working to build a cross-party alliance for action to stop no deal

The Shadow Brexit Secretary Keir Starmer has warned Boris Johnson that the majority in Parliament against a no-deal Brexit is “bigger and more resolute than ever.” His comments come after the government’s majority was cut to just one after the Lib Dems won the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election.

Starmer has said he will work with former Tory ministers who want to stop a “disastrous and chaotic exit”. He has said: “Every tool in our armoury must be deployed: amending legislation, forcing emergency debates and triggering no-confidence votes.”

Shortly after his resignation, the former Chancellor Philip Hammond met with Starmer to begin discussions on action Parliament could take after the summer recess.
