Brexit has made it more likely, say Scots

A new poll by Lord Ashcroft has revealed that the majority of Scots now want independence.

The poll found that 47% believe there should be a new independence referendum in the next two years, compared with 45% who do not.

In a new referendum, 52% said they would vote for Scotland to be an independent country.

Notably, 62% of those polled said Brexit had made it more likely there will be a new referendum on independence in the foreseeable future.

Scots voted 55.3% in favour of staying part of the United Kingdom in an independence referendum in 2014.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, leader of the Scottish National Party, has said attempts to block a new referendum would be “undemocratic and unsustainable”.
