Owen Jones attacked in ‘premeditated assault’

The prominent left-wing activist Owen Jones was attacked outside a pub in the early hours of this morning in what he has described as a “premeditated assault”.

The author was leaving celebrations for his birthday with friends when he says a group of men kicked him in the back and threw him to the ground. The men are said to have then kicked Jones in the head.

Earlier this year, a far-right activist posted photographs taken covertly of Jones in a pub in Islington, London.

Jones has tweeted to say he “is fine” after the assault, adding: “The far right menace is growing, it’s real, it’s violent, and it’s targeting minorities and leftists. We can’t let them intimidate us, and we will defeat them.”
